Book Review: City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments #3) by Cassandra Clare

Hi, everybody!

Autumn break has started so that means more reading and more book reviews! As always on Saturdays I have a review for you. Probably there will be some extra posts this week beside my normal posts so look out for that!

Titel: City of Glass

Author: Cassandra Clare

Genre:  YA,  Fantasy Adventure

Publishing Date: January 1ste 2009

Pages: 541

Rate: 4.75/5

Synopsis  (Goodreads)

To save her mother’s life, Clary must travel to the City of Glass, the ancestral home of the Shadowhunters – never mind that entering the city without permission is against the Law, and breaking the Law could mean death. To make things worse, she learns that Jace does not want her there, and Simon has been thrown in prison by the Shadowhunters, who are deeply suspicious of a vampire who can withstand sunlight.
As Clary uncovers more about her family’s past, she finds an ally in mysterious Shadowhunter Sebastian. With Valentine mustering the full force of his power to destroy all Shadowhunters forever, their only chance to defeat him is to fight alongside their eternal enemies. But can Downworlders and Shadowhunters put aside their hatred to work together? While Jace realizes exactly how much he’s willing to risk for Clary, can she harness her newfound powers to help save the Glass City – whatever the cost?
Love is a mortal sin and the secrets of the past prove deadly as Clary and Jace face down Valentine in the third installment of the New York Times bestselling series The Mortal Instruments.

My review

After almost two months of waiting I finally got to reading the third book in this fantastic series. And it only got better.

Cassandra Clare places Jace and Clary in very difficult stituations for them both. It’s impossible to hide their love for each other even though they know they shouldn’t feel the way they do. The negative comments I had on Clary in my book review for City of Bones (which you can read here) completely dissapeared. She proves that she’s strong and she really has changed in such a short period of time. And even though Jace is broken he still is himself, fortunatly.
A thing I really like was the relationship between Simon and Jace. Then don’t like each other very much but they try to tolerate each other for Clary which leads to hilarious comments from both sides. Now that Simon is a Daylighter it seems much easier for him to live a normal life. But nothing comes without a price.
Alec was amazing. He still is a little bit irritating and pedantic but to his credit. Finally he starts to kind of like Clary in his way.
Isabelle, as always, was her kickbutt self.
We also got to meet the new and handsome character Sebastian. In the beginning I quite liked him actually, then I started to think he was a creep and then… well…

At the moment, when I’m writing this, I already read City of Fallen Angels. When I finished City of Glass I was wondering what still had to happen in the next three books because it was all nicely wrapped up, but more of that in my review of City of Fallen Angels.

Did you read this book? What did you think of it? Comment below or send a link to your review if you have one, I’d love to read it! I’ll see see you tomorrow with a Book Tag!

This or That? Challenge #12

this or that

Hi, everybody!

This week’s This or That? Challenge of Rae over at Bookmark Chronicles is very interesting.

We have to choose between…

own your own bookshop (spruce it up however you like)

OR

get paid to read (on your own timeline and read whatever you want)

Owning a bookshop would be absolutely wonderfull. I could recommend books to people and talk about books to people just books *-* But now that I think about it I don’t really like people… I find it very difficult to talk to stragers or just any humans actually. XD

And getting paid to read? That’s just a dream, isn’t it?! I would be a millionaire in no time! Yep, I’m deffinitly choosing getting paid to read. I could read all day long and my parents wouldn’t mind it because I can say that I get mony for it. And with that money I can buy more books. And then when I read those books I have more money for some more books. Oh, yes! Can this please happen?!

What would you choose? Comment on Rae’s post (linked above) or make your own post about it (make sure to link it to Rae’s blog)! That’s it for this Wednesday. I will hopefully see you again on Saturday!

Fall Time Cozy Book Tag

Hi, everybody!

I was tagged by Another Afterthought to do the Fall Time Cozy Book Tag. Thank you for tagging me and definitely check out his blog! Let’s get started!

CRUNCHING LEAVES: THE WORLD IS FULL OF COLOUR. CHOOSE A BOOK THAT HAS REDS, ORANGES AND YELLOWS ON THE COVER.

This is probably the most warm cover of all The Mortal Instruments series. With Clary’s red hair and yellow dress and Simon’s (I think it’s Simon, I’m not sure xD ) brown/orange clothes and all the orange and brown colours it looks really cozy.

COZY SWEATER: IT’S FINALLY COLD ENOUGH THE DON WARM COZY CLOTHING. WHAT BOOK GIVES YOU THE WARM FUZZIES?

I know this a winter read but these cute lovestories make me so warm inside! They’re fun, lovely and light. A really nice quick read while curled up in a blanket.

FALL STORM: THE WIND IS HOWLING AND THE RAIN IS POUNDING. CHOOSE YOUR FAVOURITE BOOK OR GENRE THAT YOU LIKE TO READ ON A STORMY DAY.

I don’t think I actually have such a book or genre. I just read what I feel like reading or what I already was reading. Wheter there’s a storm outside or the sun shines bright I will curl up in a blanket and read the book I’m currently reading on my bed. :p

COOL CRISP AIR: WHO’S THE COOLEST CHARACTER YOU WANT TO TRADE PLACES WITH?

How cool would it be to be Izzy for a day? I could wear badass clothes and I could finally be more confident in myself. AND I would kill demons like it was nothing! B-) I chose the Isabelle from the movie because I don’t really like the Isabelle from the tv-series… (We’ll see what I think of her when the serie starts.)

HOT APLLE CIDER: WHAT UNDER HYPED BOOK DO YOU WANT TO SEE BECOME THE NEXT BIGGEST, HOTTEST THING?

Maybe this book already once was a really popular book but I just want everyone to read this book because it’s so so good! I still haven’t come around on reading Carlos Ruiz Zafon’s other books but I really want to.

COAT, SCARVES AND MITTENS: THE WEATHER HAS TURNED COLD AND IT’S TIME TO COVER UP. WHAT’S THE MOST EMBARRASING COVER YOU OWN THAT YOU LIKE TO KEEP HIDDEN IN PUBLIC?

I don’t think I have a cover that’s that embarrasing. Since I’m only fourteen years old and I mostly don’t read NA I don’t have books with inapropriate covers or something.

PUMPKIN SPICE: WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE FALL TIME CONFORT FOOD/FOODS?

SOUP!!! I love soup! It’s so warm and in a nice looking mug it looks really cozy. *-*

That’s it for the Fall Time Cozy Book Tag! I hope you enjoyed it and I will see you on Wednesday!

Bookreview: Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

Hi, everybody!

This week’s book review: Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell!

Eleanor & ParkTitel: Eleanor & Park

Author: Rainbow Rowell

Publishing date: February 26th 2013

Genre: YA

Pages: 283

Rating: 5/5

Synopsis (Goodreads)

Two misfits.
One extraordinary love.
Eleanor
… Red hair, wrong clothes. Standing behind him until he turns his head. Lying beside him until he wakes up. Making everyone else seem drabber and flatter and never good enough…Eleanor.
Park… He knows she’ll love a song before he plays it for her. He laughs at her jokes before she ever gets to the punch line. There’s a place on his chest, just below his throat, that makes her want to keep promises…Park.
Set over the course of one school year, this is the story of two star-crossed sixteen-year-olds—smart enough to know that first love almost never lasts, but brave and desperate enough to try.

My review

I finally read my second book by Rainbow Rowell. After I read Fangirl in April I was sold. This book, too, was fantastic! I flew right through it. If people didn’t need sleep I would’ve read it in one sitting.
Eleanor lives in difficult family circumstances. After a year she can finally live with her mother, stepdad and siblings again. But, still her stepdad despises her. She’s such a strong character with a really strong will and reading about a corpulent person really did something with me.  Because of financial problems her clothes are all wrong and she isn’t much appreciated at school. But there is one boy who may show some interest in her and that’s the start of their first, unusual and special love.
Park lives in a warm family. But at home and school he feels like he doesn’t really belong untill he meets Eleanor. I thought Park was a less interesting character but I still really liked him.

While I was reading and after I finished it I was thinking about what I actually liked about this book and I have to admit that I still don’t know. I know that I just do. Maybe because I want my first love to start like this or maybe because the circumstances intrigued me.

Rainbow Rowell did such a good job on making me fall in love with this book and making my heart break and her writingstyle! God, I love it!

Although I still love Fangirl better than this one, this was almost as good!

Did you read this book? What did you think of it? Comment below or leave a link to your review if you have one. I’d love to read it! ALSO! PLEASE TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK THE THREE WORDS ARE!!!

This or That? Challenge #11

this or that

Hi, everybody!

This week Rae over at Bookmark Chronicles made a lovely Harry Potter themed This or That? Challenge! And you all know how much I love talking about Harry Potter so here we go!

Choose between…

Only reading the Harry Potter series for the rest of your life

or

only watching the movies for the rest of your life.

I love, love, love watching the movies. It’s definitly not as good as the books but I really love almost all the actors. When I’m in a bad and depresive mood Harry Potter is always there to make me happy and it’s easier to watch a movie than read a whole book.

But the books… You can’t ignore these masterpieces that J. K. Rowling has created.  I can’t imagine a life without them! I know I read almost all of them ten times but I can’t imagine living without Hogwarts and all these wonderfull characters and just  I love it so much! I would never give those books up. Just thinking about living without them makes me sad and ugh Rae! How dare you even ask this and make me so sad! Just kidding, I love you. ;p

So I would definitly choose the books over the movies although I can’t really imagine a life without the movies, either… I’m so glad questions like these aren’t real… XD

So, that’s it! Make sure to comment on Rae’s post (linked above) or make you own post about it and make sure to link it to Rae’s. I will see you on Saturday! 😉

Villain Squad Tag

Hi, everybody!

Although I’m very lazy I am making this post! XD I was tagged by Another Afterthought. Thank you so much for tagging me! Before we start you have to know that I’m usually not a villain lover. So most of all these villains I pick I probably don’t like but I just think they would be quite good for the job.

THINK OF YOUR VILLAIN IDENTITY AND POWER

Well, for my name I’m not sure I will find a good one because I’m terrible at choosing names. XD But I know what super power I want! I want to be able to read minds! Like who doesn’t want that? Maybe it can be boring in life because you know what everyone is thinking and life becomes less mysterious but just how cool would it be?! I always want to know what other people are thinking. About me, about others, about things in the world… I can’t help it. :p

THE LEADER – PICK A LEADER TO LEAD THE PACK

(Valentine Morgenstern – The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare)

Look, I absolutely hate Valentine but I do think he is a good leader. When he was the leader of the Circle everyone loved him and his plans were kind of working. But then ofcourse almost everyone turned their back to him… :p

THE KILLER SMILE – PICK A VILLAIN WHO IS JUST EXTREMELY ATTRACTIVE

(Rhysand – A Court Of Thorns And Roses by Sarah J. Maas)

We just have to appreciate the good looks of Rhysand, right? This is one villain that I actually do like! Maybe even love… If you read A Court Of Thorns And Roses you probably know why. He’s so mysterious and dark and just *-*

THE LOOSE CANON – PICK A VILLAIN THAT MARCHES TO THE BEAT OF THEIR OWN DRUM

(Ares – The Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan)

You have to admit all the gods are kind of villains. They mostly just think about themselves, everyone has to admire them, … And Ares really doesn’t give an f about what others think of his actions. He will just do his own thing.

THE UNHINGED ONE – PICK A VILLAIN WHO ISN’T PLAYING WITH A FULL DECK

(Bellatrix Lestrange – The Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling)

Bellatrix is just donwright insane and crazy and awfull. I absolutely hate her actually but I can understand why people love her. It’s probably just because Helena did such a good job on her with the movies. Because I really don’t understand how you can like her otherwise. XD I love Helena too as Bellatrix. :p

THE REDEEMER – PICK A VILLAIN THAT’S ON PATH OF REDEMPTION/WOULD PLAY BOTH SIDES

(Draco Malfoy – The Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling)

I know, I know, a cliché. I don’t like Draco nor do I hate him. He’s just a boy who thinks he’s doing the right thing because of his parents. But when the series comes to a close he knows he’s not doing the right thing but he just doesn’t really know how to put things right.

THE EVIL ONE – PICK A VILLAIN THAT’S JUST BAD TO THE BONE

(President Snow – The Hunger Games trilogy)

I would’ve said Voldemort but I don’t think he can be in a “squad” without being a leader so I went with president Snow. Now, you can say that he neither can be in a squad without being the leader but I believe he would be quite a bit intimidated by all the other villains I picked since then all have some kind of super power. And we just have to admit that there is no good in Snow.

THE ONCE-WAS-GOOD – PICK A VILLAIN THAT DIDN’T ORIGINALLY START OUT AS A VILLAIN

I’ve been thinking about this one for already 15 minutes or something and I can’t think of anyone… XD I need to read more books! :’) If you know one please comment below! 🙂

So, that’s it! As you can see I really don’t like villains but I hope you enjoyed it and I will see you on Wednesday (if I don’t forget to post XD)

Book Review: The Sword by Deborah Chester

Hi, everybody!

I’m so sorry! I totally forgot to post on Wednesday! I had so much homework and I only realised I forgot to post when I lay in bed that evening. Thereby I missed a really good This or That? Challenge of Rae. I’m bussy with school, I can’t concentrate on anything and I don’t have any insperation for anything. There’s something happening with me, I think. :p But today I have a book review for you! I’m sorry it’s a short one but as I said I’m bussy, can’t concentrate and don’t have any insperation.

Titel: The Sword

Author: Deborah Chester

Publishing date: February 1ste 2000

Genre: Fantasy

Rating: 2/5

Synopsis (Goodreads)

Two men. One is a prince of royal blood. The other is a half-breed, part human, part elf. But the part that is human is also royal. Two women. One is a princess, pampered and protected. The other lives in the forest, the leader of a band of rebels. She too has elven blood.

This is their story — the tale of love and hate, courage and cowardliness, and magic both dark and light.

My review

This series, too, I received from a friend and I wasn’t actually that keen to start it for some reason.
In the first part we follow king Tobeszijian while he loses his throne and while he’s on the run. He loses his wife who he loves with all his heart and tries to bring his children in safety.
Especially in the first part it was really action-packed and this is the part I read the fastest.
In the second and third part we follow the son of king Tobeszijian 15 years later. These parts were a little bit slower but there still happened a lot. Still I barely went forward. Mostly because of school but I also just didn’t want to read.
I had big troubles with the world building. It was really confusing and a map would’ve been welcome! But overall the writingsstyle was good although there were so many difficult names!
Unfortunatly I didn’t really enjoy this book. Probably because I just wasn’t in the mood for it because it was a really interesting story.
One day I will continue with this trilogy but for now I don’t think so.

I hope you enjoyed and I see you tomorrow. 🙂

Inside Out Book Tag

Hi, everybody!

A couple of weeks ago I was tagged by thoughts and afterthoughts to do the Inside Out Book Tag! Thank you for tagging me and make sure you all check out his blog. Let’s start!

1 A BOOK THAT BRINGS YOU JOY

I wanted to say Harry Potter because it’s Harry Potter but I alread talk enough about that so I picked Let It Snow by John Green, Maureen Johnson and Lauren Myracle. I didn’t read this book in the winter which would be obvious. I just read it in the summer… XD But I really loved this book. The stories were all really funny and cute. I’m sure this is a perfect book for in the winter when it’s cold and you want to feel warm inside. 🙂

2 A BOOK THAT MAKES YOU SAD

I read All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr last month and this whole story just made me sad. Probably because of the thought of war and destruction. I don’t really know why but I can react strongly to topics like war. Maybe because war was just such a big part of our history.

3 A BOOK THAT MAKES YOU ANGRY

The firts two book in the Earth’s Children series by Jean M. Auel I quite enjoyed. It certainly isn’t the best series ever because mostly it’s just boring and there’s too much description but it still is very interesting. But then I read the third book. I was extremely frustrated with Jondalar and Ayla in that one. Just because they obviously didn’t know how to comunicate they kept misunderstanding each other. God, just talk to each other! We all know you only want each other. Just thinking about this book again makes me angry.

4 A BOOK THAT DISGUSTS YOU

When I read the synopsis of Nothing by Janne Teller I was intrigued. But when I started reading I didn’t like the writingstyle at all. It was just awful! And then these kids started cutting fingers off and cutting off the head of a dog LIKE WHAT? That’s disgusting? What is wrong with all of you? I disliked pretty much everything about this book. I don’t like to say that but just… ugh!

5 A BOOK THAT BRINGS YOU FEAR

I haven’t read actually a really scary book but this one kind of is a little scary. In The Prince of Mist by Carlos Ruiz Zafon there is this clown that scared the crap out of me for a moment. XD

That’s it! Till Wednesday!

Book review: The Weaver’s Riddle – Mist & Whispers (The Weaver’s Riddle #1) by C. M. Lucas

Hi, everybody!

I’m really excited for this week’s book review! I wanted to share this book with all of you for already some time and now is the time!

Titel: The Weaver’s Riddle – Mist & Whispers

Author: C. M. Lucas

Publishing date: September 21st 2015

Genre: YA, Fantasy

Pages: 350

Rating: 4.75/5

Synopsis (Goodreads)

Four handwritten tales about love, magic, and mythical creatures have become the biggest phenomenon this world has ever seen, creating hysteria among millions of readers across the globe. With the author using an anonymous pen-name, everyone is asking:

Who is the Weaver?

In the West-English town of Little Wolf Green, Scott’s bookshop is about to close down. Convinced the bookshop holds the key to her mother’s identity, sixteen year old Anya Piddling vows to save Scott’s, whatever the cost.

That’s when she discovers the Weaver’s riddle.

Combined with the Weaver’s original four books, the riddle promises to lead Anya to a reward that could pull Scott’s out of the fire, if only she can decipher the clues. But her quest becomes tangled with another when she finds herself in a land where darkness is eternal, the women are missing, and the men are awaiting her arrival for their salvation.

My review

I received this book from Claire herself in exchange for an honest review.

I was anticipating this book for months already and I actually had high expectations. Mostly I don’t like to have high expectations in case I would be dissapointed but I was everything but dissapointed by this book.

In this book we follow Anya who, after being abandoned by her mother when she was a baby, lives in the Piddling Children’s Home. But it doesn’t feel like home to her at all. Fortunatly there is Scott’s Bookshop where she dissapears in all the books she reads untill the big book company, Chronicles, discovers four books of the mysterious Weaver and Scott’s Bookshop will probably be sold to them.
Together with her ex boyfriend Michael, the bookshop manager Stephanie, and her boyfriend Tim, Anya searches for the potentially more books by the Weaver.

Anya is very helpful, she always wants to help people, whereby she sometimes brings the people around her in danger which she desperately wants to avoid. Throughout their adventure there grows a tight bond between Anya, Stephanie, Tim and maybe even Michael. Anya is brave but she really struggles with her past.
Stephanie is a real barbie doll, because of that I couldn’t stand her in the beginning but it turns out she isn’t that bad. She may not be the most smart one she still is very courageous and understading and she really suprised me sometimes.
Tim is Stephanie’s boyfriends and he’s actually the opposite of her. He’s very intelligent and sober and he truly loves Stephanie. He might be my favourite character.
Lastly, we have Michael. The first time we came across him I thought he was quite cute but further on in the book I didn’t really like him. There was that one moment where he was so adorable but a chapter later he was his arrogant self again. I don’t say that I hate him he’s just definitely not my favourite.
I’m extremely curious about what will happen with all of them in the next books.

Now, the writingstyle. In the beginning I wasn’t sure about it. Some things were too sudden and some reactions were, too. But when the story goes on that moslty dissapeares. Claire’s writingstyle is really beautiful and it pulled me into the book away from reality. I truly felt like I experienced what Anya experienced.

This whole book was so, so good and I recommend it to EVERYONE. It’s such a good fantasy that reads quickly and is really funny (which I didn’t expect but really loved!) for younger teenagers but definitely also for some older people. I could tell you so much more about this book but I won’t because you have to dive into it without knowing too much about it. 🙂

You can order this book on Amazon (Click here) and you can follow Clair on Instagram at @Clairmarielucas .

So, have you heard about this book or have you read it? If you haven’t please comment below if I convienced you to read it because you really should! And Claire, if you’re reading this, please tell me how the second book is going and when it will come out because I need it in my life!!!

This or That? Challenge #9

this or that

Hi, everybody!

This week’s This or That? Challenge isn’t really a This or That? but Rae over at Bookmark Chronicles (the creator of this challenge) wants to know what our favourite genre is.

For me it is impossible to choose just one genre. Mostly I like all the genres but if I really have to choose I have to go with two. At the moment I’m really enjoying Fantasy. I don’t think there are actually booklovers who don’t like Fantasy, right?

When I was little I read these fantasy books about a mouse who is a real pussy but he did everything to help his friends. These books are from Holland or Belgium, I’m not sure. But everyone loves them. When I was little it were the books you had to read and even now there are still new books coming out and my little cousin is reading it too! After that I obviously started reading Harry Potter. These books really opened the world of fantasy and they had and still have a great impact on my life. So, actually fantasy is a genre that I’ve loved for whole my life already and I hope to read thousands more of them! XD

Some Fantasy books I like:

  • The Harry Potter series by J. K. Rowling (obviously!)
  • The Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan
  • Miss Peregrine’s trilogy by Ransom Riggs (Haven’t read Library of Souls yet 😥 )
  • The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare (Only read the first two, I’m going to contiue soon!)
  • A Court Of Thornes and Roses by Sarah J. Maas (One of my favourites of 2015)
  • The Weaver’s Riddle – Mist & Whispers by C. M. Lucas (A new fantasy series!!!)

(Since I’m still not that long such a big booklover I haven’t read that many books so these are mostly some obvious ones.)

My second genre is Contemporary. For something like 1.5 years I’ve been a big booklover and last year I discovered the John Green books (probably because of The Fault In Our Stars, I’m not sure xp) and that really got me into contemporary. After The Fault In Our Stars I read a lot more contemporary and I can’t say that it’s not because of the romances. 😉 I just love romance in books.

Some Contemporary books I like:

  • All the John Green books
  • I’ll Give You The Sun by Jandy Nelson
  • Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
  • All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven
  • Girl Online by Zoe Sugg

That’s it! Make sure to check out Rae’s blog (linked above) and comment your favourite genre on her post or make you’re own post about it (link it to Rae’s blog!). I will see you on Saturday with a very exciting book review! 😀
