Book Review: City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments #3) by Cassandra Clare

Hi, everybody!

Autumn break has started so that means more reading and more book reviews! As always on Saturdays I have a review for you. Probably there will be some extra posts this week beside my normal posts so look out for that!

Titel: City of Glass

Author: Cassandra Clare

Genre:  YA,  Fantasy Adventure

Publishing Date: January 1ste 2009

Pages: 541

Rate: 4.75/5

Synopsis  (Goodreads)

To save her mother’s life, Clary must travel to the City of Glass, the ancestral home of the Shadowhunters – never mind that entering the city without permission is against the Law, and breaking the Law could mean death. To make things worse, she learns that Jace does not want her there, and Simon has been thrown in prison by the Shadowhunters, who are deeply suspicious of a vampire who can withstand sunlight.
As Clary uncovers more about her family’s past, she finds an ally in mysterious Shadowhunter Sebastian. With Valentine mustering the full force of his power to destroy all Shadowhunters forever, their only chance to defeat him is to fight alongside their eternal enemies. But can Downworlders and Shadowhunters put aside their hatred to work together? While Jace realizes exactly how much he’s willing to risk for Clary, can she harness her newfound powers to help save the Glass City – whatever the cost?
Love is a mortal sin and the secrets of the past prove deadly as Clary and Jace face down Valentine in the third installment of the New York Times bestselling series The Mortal Instruments.

My review

After almost two months of waiting I finally got to reading the third book in this fantastic series. And it only got better.

Cassandra Clare places Jace and Clary in very difficult stituations for them both. It’s impossible to hide their love for each other even though they know they shouldn’t feel the way they do. The negative comments I had on Clary in my book review for City of Bones (which you can read here) completely dissapeared. She proves that she’s strong and she really has changed in such a short period of time. And even though Jace is broken he still is himself, fortunatly.
A thing I really like was the relationship between Simon and Jace. Then don’t like each other very much but they try to tolerate each other for Clary which leads to hilarious comments from both sides. Now that Simon is a Daylighter it seems much easier for him to live a normal life. But nothing comes without a price.
Alec was amazing. He still is a little bit irritating and pedantic but to his credit. Finally he starts to kind of like Clary in his way.
Isabelle, as always, was her kickbutt self.
We also got to meet the new and handsome character Sebastian. In the beginning I quite liked him actually, then I started to think he was a creep and then… well…

At the moment, when I’m writing this, I already read City of Fallen Angels. When I finished City of Glass I was wondering what still had to happen in the next three books because it was all nicely wrapped up, but more of that in my review of City of Fallen Angels.

Did you read this book? What did you think of it? Comment below or send a link to your review if you have one, I’d love to read it! I’ll see see you tomorrow with a Book Tag!

7 gedachtes over “Book Review: City of Glass (The Mortal Instruments #3) by Cassandra Clare

  1. I read the 4th book but decided to not finish the rest, the story ended for me with this one and I’m ok with it. I personally didn’t like the direction she took Jace and Clary so I didn’t continue. I hope you find them more interesting though, I know I’m in the minority with this one but I loved this one the most of the 3.
