Last day of the holidays and I have a book review for you of Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher.

WRITING
The way this book was wrtitten was a very interesting concept. You read about this character who’s listening to tapes from a dead girl. The writing really made you feel things for the characters.
CHARACTERS
I didn’t think we really, really got to the know the characters. Like, we know how Hannah felt surrounding her own image and suicide, and we know how Clay felt about Hannah and how he felt about hearing her story. But beside that I had no clue who Hannah and Clay were in regular life.
Okay, maybe I do know a little bit more about Hannah. All those months she’s been living with the idea that everyone thinks she’s a slut. And that did something to her. Because she cared so much about it, it make her who she was those months. She was silent, had no real friends and she was thinking about suicide.
Then there’s Clay. I don’t have a lot to tell you about him. Like I already said: We only know what he thought about Hannah. He really liked her. When he was listening to her tapes it really hurt him. He didn’t have a strong relationship with Hannah but that would’ve been different if she hadn’t killed herself.
PLOT
So Clay listens to Hannah’s tapes. He had a crush on her for months and just before she killed herself they even had kissed. We keep wondering why Hannah had sent the tapes to Clay. All the other people on the tape had done awful things to her. So why was Clay on the tapes? When he’s listening to Hannah’s stories about the other people, Clay keeps wondering why he’s on the tapes. And we do, too. He starts thinking that he’d done something terrible. I was happy when I finally got to know Clay’s part in the story.
When I read what Hannah was saying it felt so real. Several times I thought: “When Clay’s done listening to the tapes he’ll just go to Hannah and stop her from killing herself.” And everytime it hit me like a bullet; Clay couldn’t do anything about it. She’d already killed herself.
OVERALL
This book made me think. It showed me that some little things can lead to a big and terrible thing. What’s done can’t be undone and we’d have to live with the consequences. This book left an impression behind and I really did enjoy it. I wasn’t always happy with how Jay Asher did things but it was still a really good book.

Agreed, I kept thinking that he could stop Hannah from doing what she did, I kept forgetting that Hannah was already gone. That part I have to agree got me thinking that we all have an impact on another, and that nothing can be undone- like you said. We have to live with those consequences, so we should try our best at all things.
