Today I have my book review for Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare for you. I hope you enjoy!
Titel: Clockwork Angel
Author: Cassandra Clare
Publishing Date: August 31st 2014
The year is 1878. Tessa Gray descends into London’s dark supernatural underworld in search of her missing brother. She soon discovers that her only allies are the demon-slaying Shadowhunters—including Will and Jem, the mysterious boys she is attracted to. Soon they find themselves up against the Pandemonium Club, a secret organization of vampires, demons, warlocks, and humans. Equipped with a magical army of unstoppable clockwork creatures, the Club is out to rule the British Empire, and only Tessa and her allies can stop them…
As you all know I really enjoy Cassandra Clare’s books and I love her writingstyle. She makes me really feel things for the characters and she’s so funny!
Cassandra Clare is known to create amazing and unique characters, In this book it isn’t any different.
We follow Tessa who travels to London on her brother’s request but gets kidnapped. When she discovers the Shadowhunters (or they discover her) her life changes forever for she knows now the truth about the world. I find Tessa a very likeable character. She’s caring, loves her brother like nothing else and she loves books. Quickly she’s attracted to the sweet Jem and the sarcastic Will.
Jem, oh, how I love Jem. Jem’s been ill for a very big part of his life and doesn’t expect to live a long life. He’s so kind and understanding and God, I love him so, so much! *-*
Will’s another story. Where his friend is light and kind, he is dark and hateful. He keeps people away from him with the exception of Jem. I really don’t like him. He’s very mysterious and I can tell there is more to his past than he says but I. Just. Cannot. Stand. Him. Everybody else seems to love him, or at least like him, and now I can’t really see why but I guess that will change throughout the trilogy. I’ll just have to wait and see.
Charlotte runs the London Institute and she’s very capable of doing so, even though she still is very young and doesn’t really get support of her husband, Henry. He’s an inventor and very absentmindedly. Charlotte takes Tessa under her wings immediatly and cares a lot for everyone who lives at the Institute.
Lastly there’s Jessamine. She hates living at the Institute since she doesn’t want to be a Shadowhunter and I expect she will cause some trouble in the rest of the trilogy. She’s not very strong set mentally, I think.
I loved to see the Shadowworld in Victorian London. I love the idea of the clothes they’re wearing and I liked to see that the Shadowhunters were a little bit more modern than the mundanes. (Like, women are almost as important as men.)
As Always with Cassandra Clare’s books, the end was so exciting. Throughout the whole story we have a lot of questions surrounding Tessa and her abbility and at the end we got to know some things about her that left me with even more questions.
This was an amazing first book! I loved everything about it and it was all very interesting. Can’t wait to continue with this trilogy. Hopefully we’ll get some more answers that don’t leave us with more questions. :p
